What Is UK Payroll Year End?
UK payroll year end is the process of finalising employee pay, tax, and National Insurance records for the tax year, then reporting them to HMRC before the new tax year starts. It covers your final payroll submission, employee year end documents, and the checks that keep your records accurate.
The UK tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April. Everything on your payroll needs to be reconciled and reported around that date.
How We Help Overseas Employers With UK Payroll
Running payroll across two countries means keeping track of different deadlines, rules and processes. We see these challenges regularly when supporting international businesses with their UK operations. Having helped more than 2,000 companies develop their businesses in the UK, we know where UK payroll can differ from what you’re used to at home.
If you’re facing any of the below challenges, our specialists at Goodwille can help.
Different payroll calendars? We keep track of UK HMRC deadlines and match them against the payroll timetable you use in your home-country.
Employees splitting their time between borders? We make sure important documents like P60s and P11Ds are prepared correctly and in line with how they work.
Different deductions to manage? We check tax codes, National Insurance and student loan deductions so the right amounts are taken from each employee’s pay.
Need a solution for reporting payroll to HMRC? We use compliant payroll software to submit Real Time Information (RTI) correctly each time you run payroll.
Concerned about payroll errors? We make sure your submissions are accurate and on time, helping you avoid unnecessary penalties and corrections.

What Does Our Payroll Year End Service Cover?
As the tax year comes to an end, we’ll guide you through the key payroll requirements and take care of the necessary year-end tasks, so everything is completed correctly and on time.
P11Ds and Benefits in Kind
If you provide employees with benefits such as a company car or private medical insurance, these may need to be reported separately from their salary. Where benefits aren’t included in payroll, we’ll prepare and submit the relevant P11D forms, including the P11D(b) for reporting and paying the National Insurance due on these benefits.
Reconciliation
Before your year-end payroll is finalised, it’s important to check that the figures recorded throughout the year all match. We reconcile your payroll records against tax and National Insurance information, as well as your bank statements, to identify any differences before the final submissions are made.
P60s
Every employee on your UK payroll needs a P60 after the end of the tax year. It summarises their total pay, tax and National Insurance for the year and needs to be provided by 31 May. We’ll prepare and issue P60s for all eligible employees, including internationally mobile staff on your UK payroll.
Final Submissions to HMRC
Your final Full Payment Submission (FPS) is the end-of-year payroll report you send to HMRC, confirming the pay and deductions you’ve made for your employees during the tax year. It needs to be submitted on or before your employees’ last payday of the tax year, which ends on 5 April. We’ll take care of this for you and make sure the information is reported correctly.
An Employer Payment Summary (EPS) is an additional report used to tell HMRC about certain payments or adjustments that aren’t included in your regular payroll report – we’ll consult with you to check whether this is required, and submit it for you if necessary.
Starters, Leavers, and Tax Code Changes
When an employee joins, leaves or has a change to their tax code, your payroll needs to be updated. We’ll make sure your employee records are up to date and apply the correct HMRC tax codes for the new tax year, so your first payroll of the new tax year runs correctly.
Ongoing Payroll Support
If you’d like continued support after year end, our payroll specialists can manage your UK payroll on an ongoing basis. Nothing is too much trouble, Goodwille are our local UK Finance, HR and Administrative function enabling us to focus on doing our day jobs. We have a great relationship, but it is unobtrusive: we engage when needed, otherwise things just tick over. I have had direct engagement for the last two years as local GM.
