Payroll Services FAQ’s

What are statutory payments in the UK?

Statutory payments are legally required payments employers must provide in certain situations, such as sickness, maternity, paternity, and other employee leave entitlements.

They must be calculated and applied correctly through payroll to ensure employees are paid correctly and in line with UK employment law. We’ll support you in managing them accurately, helping you ensure compliance and reduce the risk of errors or penalties.

What types of businesses do you work with at Goodwille?

We work with businesses at every stage of growth, from pre-revenue startups and fast-scaling SMEs to established international groups and global listed retail chains.

Whether you’re a small business entering the UK for the first time or a larger organisation expanding operations, we tailor our support around your needs.

What tax regulations do I need to be aware of?

When it comes to payroll in the UK, the key framework you need to understand is PAYE (Pay As You Earn), the system used to collect income tax and National Insurance from your employees’ pay.

We’ll support you with UK tax laws, employment legislation, and tax codes to keep your payroll accurate and compliant.

What are P11D’s?

You must submit P11D’s by the 6th July if an employee has claimed expenses or benefits which are not run through the payroll. Note P11D’s are being removed from 2027, when the payrolling of benefits becomes mandatory.

What date should I pay my UK employees?

Most employees of UK businesses are paid on the 25th, 28th or last working day. If this day falls on a weekend, they are paid the Friday before. You should pay the employee based on what is included in their employment contract.

When do I need to register for PAYE?

Before you pay a UK employee you must register for PAYE (Pay As You Earn). This is to notify the tax authroity (HMRC), that you have a UK employee.

Can I employ a UK employee without a UK company?

Yes. You can recruit an employee in the UK via an international parent company, but their roles & responsibilities may be limited.
